To start “Becoming” off I decided to look at one of the prompt questions, “take a good look at yourself”. Instead of going do the more predictable route I went for a version of myself that I wanted to explore. I went for my Instagram and how I presented myself on there.
To get more data/research i went on my insta stories and asked what people thought of me based on my instagram alone. It resulted in some unknown people answering but majority were people i know so the answers were biased.
These were some of the answers that I got from people. Majority of the answers are positive besides my sister’s comments.
Then for just a visual representation of the comments. I surrounded all the answers around my instagram.
This piece was made during “On Your Marks”. For this piece I had to create an object that didn’t look a mundane object.
This object was made during “Psychogeography”. The brief was to recreate an object that I owned with different medium.
These were prototypes that I made for my object that I was making in “Psychogeography”. I wanted to get and idea of scale and if I was able to possibly do it in the medium.
This object was during “On Your Marks”. Where I had to create a 3D object that had no function to it.
To start off this part of the rotation, Kath gave the group a task to make an object that was non-functioning. As freeing as we want.
I decided to use three main objects and work around the jar to make the piece.
Then the next task was to make an object but with a function, it could be whatever I want. It still had to remain the element of random.
Honestly don’t know what the function of the object could be.
Gracia Lam
So for the main piece for this part of the project, I wanted to develop a piece from Gracia that I really enjoyed. Her work aims to reinvent mundane objects and turn them into somewhat of a fantasy. The piece was based on the her commissioned work for the “New York Times” and it was a piece about sanctuary spas in Tucson, Arizona.
Before the making of this object, Kath gave feedback on the two previous pieces and she suggested that I could focus on bottles & to be more specific “potion bottles”. Therefore, I went for trying to cover the bottle to make the outer more “fantasy-like”. Which goes hand in hand with Gracia Lam’s thought process of turning a mundane object into art.
The first three drawings are perspective drawings of the studio and the last drawing is a cafe in Swansea Market which I had to create for Psychogeography.
The first rotation was Anthony. His part of “On Your Marks” was to show a sense of marking making with a graphical take. To start off he gave us the task of marking down the shapes but in different patterns/arrangements to make the phrase “On Your Marks” after that he made us/I break down each letter and used the three shapes to create the one letter.
Screen-Printing
After multiply of task to get a better understanding of the shapes. Out of the phrase we each had a letter to create. I had the letter “U” to create. Also the end result of this rotation was to do a screen print of the chosen letter.
The final part of Psychogeography was Kath’s part. Which the brief was to take a 3D object that I have and write about the process of creating that object.
I decided to do my piece about my keys. At first it was between the keys and a necklace that I recently bought. It made sense to create and write about my keys because theres history with my keys.

PHYSICAL RESPONSE
For my physical response, I didn’t know how to go about it. First, I went with trying to make a 3d key using paper. Trying to make somewhat of a key net. After that I went on to make some designs that I wanted on my key to differentiate them. I decided that I wanted to make some clay keys because that would be the closest to actually making 3d models.
This design was for the main key for my house whilst doing my mindmap I looked into the brand of keys and who manufacturer them.
The idea with the clay moulds would be that I would use them to create the keys. But some of my keys would have to require a two mould set which at that moment of time, I didn’t have time to do.
Automatic Writing is claimed physic ability allowing a person to produce written words purportedly arise from the subconscious. To ease us into the process of automatic writing, we were task with just little min writing. At first Becky & Jason, got us to do it with our left hand and then we moved location and had to do it there. Instead of a min we did it as five minutes.
My Space
After the tasks, we had to chose a space to write about. The space I chose was influenced by an artist called Nam June Paik. Who loves to feature technology in his work especially Tv’s. So I decided to make my space about a Tv. The idea is that I’m going to close my eyes in front of the Tv whilst I write.
Physical Response
The idea for this was that i wanted to translate my automatic writing into a some kind of script. Inspired by the work of Senthuran Varatharajah. Who has a section in Flaneur Magazine that explores his time at an airport but has a similar script like layout. Also wanted to explore Typography in my work.
For the video response, my initial idea was to make a video kind of repeating what I’ve said in my automatic writing. Just by combining different clips together. The earlier clips in the video are following that format. But then I had another idea to make the video a reflection on media today and how is hyper everything. From sex, alcohol and violence.
Workshop: Surface Pattern
For the workshop, I had to create a repeat pattern that link into the work that I was doing. Therefore, I’ve decided to make my pattern a homage if I say so. To Nam June Paik piece that I saw in the Tate called “TV Garden”.
MAIN INFLUNCES
The three main influences for this part of Psychogeography, were Flaneur Magazine, Senthuran Varatharajah & Nam June Paik.
I moved onto Shellie’s group, which focused writing about a specific piece of clothing that I was wearing that day. Similar, to Anthony I would have to create a physical response to my writing.
Writing
For the writing I chose, this cow print bucket to be my subject because it was the most interesting piece I was wearing. Instead of just describing the hat and what it means to me. I went for the route of writing about how it got to me. I decided in my writing that in my writing piece that I was not going to refer to my piece as “cow print bucket hat” but instead refer to the Order Number. Which is #449167547 In my writing , looking at journey in a outside/3rd person perceptive. So for this I had to look back at delivery emails to get the information I need.
Physical Response
For the physical response, I had to create and image without using any hard lines. So it would have to include a word/phrase from my writing to create the image. I went for creating the bucket hat either using the order number to make the image or when I was talking to shellie about my writing she said a phrase that i really liked. Which was “Cultural Baggage”. Which I wanted to feature in my work somehow.
To further my response I decided to create somewhat of a prototype to see what my initial idea would look like and to expand on embroidery because it like how I can translate a thought onto a medium like that.
Workshop: Photoshop
The initial idea for the work shop was to create a t-shirt using Photoshop. I started out, thinking about how I was going to make this t-shirt but in my head I really wanted to a digital version of the embroidered hat that I did. Still keeping the same colour palette to the embroidery.
Decided to get rid of the harsh lines as that was the brief for the response, I just needed them for guidance when creating.
VISUAL STUDIES: MAPPING
For Visual Studies, the brief was that we had to create a map. I decided to link it back with my work. I went with a similar idea to the hat and went for using Shellie’s quote “Cultural Baggage” This is a map of where my hat journey takes place. If I were to finish this I would make a clear indication of where it began and where the journey ends.
Artists Impression
The first half of the writing was about the bucket hat and then we had to find artist that would relate to the project. To write first impression on them. The two artist that I closely looked at were Jeremy Scott & Alexander Wang. After the writing, showed a bunch of information on who to look at. There was this article that was talking about the trend of putting words/phrase on a garment. Which I wanted to look into more.
